A Cup of Joe With Your Work Flow

Houston is full of business professionals and hipsters, because of this we support a proud and diverse coffee culture. Being a native Houstonian and business-owner, I am very familiar with all the spots in town to get some work done and enjoy a great cup of coffee, and maybe a snack. There is no better way to meet new people, encounter local culture, and find new favorite things than experiencing a city's small businesses.

My current favorite spot is also one of Houston's newest coffee and brunch destinations, Morningstar. Conveniently located off Main St. in the Heights, Morningstar offers the best to those traveling for business or pleasure. There are many wide tables to work on and the atmosphere is always perky and upbeat. Morningstar boasts a wide range of donuts, drinks, and savory brunch/lunch items to choose from. Plus, as a part of the Greenway Coffee family, you know your coffee (or any other drink on the menu) will be excellent. My personal favorite is a matcha donut with a black cup of coffee.

If you don't intend to be in that part of town, another favorite spot of mine is Blacksmith. This is an ideal location for anyone wanting to experience Houston's Montrose neighborhood. Blacksmith is located by one of the main intersections in the Montrose area at Westheimer and Montrose Blvd. The coffee shop is settled into a smaller space than Morningstar, but the atmosphere is just as energetic. They also have ample parking - a hot commodity in that area. This busy shop is the perfect place to immerse yourself in what Houston is all about with a cup of coffee in hand.

If you’re going to be closer to downtown, by Houston’s Minute Maid Park or George R. Brown Convention Center, I would suggest spending some time at Tout Suite, off Commerce street. Tout Suite is located in a historic building with an interesting past. Their location was once a car dealership, then a night club, and has now been transformed into a great place for coffee, sweet treats, and yummy meals. They have a large space filled with long tables - perfect for a group of people or just being able to spread out a little. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to start or end your day, you can’t go wrong with this city hot spot.

The above are just a few of my personal favorite places to get some work done, but there is an endless list of other shops worthy of checking out as well. Houston has a healthy growing coffee community and a quick search on Yelp will pull up a variety of other locations that are also great for working or simply enjoying the local flavors.

Enjoy everything that Houston has to offer and shop local!
